Henry Repeating Arms has released the SPD CRUSR Rifle, a new .45-70 Gov’t lever action developed by the company’s Special Products Division in collaboration with Field Ethos. Designed for guides, outfitters and hunters who operate in harsh remote environments, the CRUSR emphasizes durability, weather resistance and reduced weight.
The rifle was created with a clear mission: produce Henry’s lightest, lowest-maintenance .45-70 lever gun to date. According to Field Ethos founder Jason Vincent, the team wanted a platform built around a proven cartridge with worldwide ammunition availability while requiring as little user attention as possible during demanding backcountry travel.
The CRUSR Rifle incorporates several key engineering choices aimed at minimizing weight and resisting environmental wear:
Barrel: A match-grade 416R stainless steel barrel is tension-wrapped in carbon fiber, reducing mass and improving cooling efficiency.
Internal Components: Moving parts including the hammer, trigger, bolt body and side-loading gate receive a Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating for increased hardness, wear resistance and corrosion protection.
Exterior Protection: The sights, barrel, receiver, lever, outer magazine tube and thread protector are coated in H-238 Midnight Blue Cerakote.
Furniture: The aluminum M-LOK forearm and synthetic buttstock are finished in H-294 Midnight Bronze Cerakote and designed for modularity and weatherproof performance.
Additional features include a factory-installed Picatinny rail with integrated adjustable ghost ring rear sight, a brass bead front sight and a ghosted Field Ethos logo on the receiver.
With an overall length of 35.25 inches and a 16.5-inch carbine-length barrel, the CRUSR is built for maneuverability in tight cover and easy transport during long hikes or small-plane travel. The rifle weighs 6.7 pounds and includes a 5/8×24 threaded muzzle for suppressor use.
Chambered in .45-70 Gov’t, it offers a 4+1 capacity and is engineered to handle +P hunting loads. The outer magazine tube omits the traditional cartridge cutout which allows full Cerakote coverage and prevents the exposed brass of the inner tube from reflecting light while also helping seal out debris.
Henry CEO Anthony Imperato said the collaboration with Field Ethos helped drive the CRUSR’s specialized design, noting that the Special Products Division was created specifically to produce focused purpose-built configurations outside Henry’s standard catalog.
The SPD CRUSR Rifle (Model H010FE) is manufactured in Rice Lake, Wisconsin and each rifle is inspected and certified by a Henry SPD engineer. The model is now shipping to Henry dealers nationwide with an MSRP of $2,499, and it is covered under Henry’s Lifetime Warranty and Satisfaction Guarantee.
