This year’s Virginia elections tomorrow, Nov. 4, may be the most important one state gun owners and sportsmen have faced in decades and gun groups are urging all gun owners and sportsmen to vote. Gov. Glenn Youngkin has been the firewall blocking dozens of anti-gun bills—more than 20 vetoes in 2025 alone. If control flips, that wall disappears and the liklihood that Democrats hold on to the state legislature remains high.
The Nation is Watching: Democrat candidate Abigail Spanberger’s record on gun rights is dismal. She clearly hates that the public can own guns. She’s come out publicly pledging to sign restrictive gun legislation, including bans on semi-auto weapons and large-cap mags. And for hunters who use only traditional arms and feel that won’t impact them, guess again. In virtually every state where gun control takes a hold, laws are written that have a vast trickle down affect on the calibers and guns, including semi-auto shotguns and rifles, that affect all sportsmen. Spanberger has been endorsed by every major gun-control group shilling an endorsement. On the flip side, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle‑Sears is the only clear choice for freedom-loving Virginians with a consistent pro-gun-rights stance and a 100% score from the VCDL-PAC (Virginia Citizens Defense League-Political Action Committee). In addition to endorsement by the VCDL-PAC, Sears has also been endorsed the NRA and the Gun Owners of America (GOA.)
Lesser of Two Evils: When it comes to the attorney general’s race, Jay Jones, the Democratic nominee, has repeatedly made it clear he will “crack down on illegal guns,” but what he really means is he will crack down on gun owners, gun shops and manufacturers. His record proves that. Jones is also facing massive backlash for violent text messages from 2022 in which he stated his fantasies of killing a political opponent and seeing his children murdered—actions the entire state party has remained virtually mum on, including Spanberger in a debate with Sears. That he is still in the race and endorsed by anti-gun groups only shows the hypocrisy the other side is willing to flaunt as they try to win at any cost. Meanwhile, incumbent Jason Miyares hasn’t been a perfect ally for gun owners, but he has defended key rights (e.g., suing the ATF over pistol-brace rules) and will help keep the erosion of Virginian’s rights at bay.
Vote Local: Don’t ignore the down-ballot contests. County supervisors, city councils, school boards and local prosecutors are where gun restrictions often begin. These offices enforce the laws and set local policy. Your vote in those races may matter more to your daily freedoms than any national contest.
This election is critical. Whether in Virginia or any other state where elections are taking place this year, your vote decides whether you continue to live free or choose to allow where you live to become the next testing ground for Bloomberg-backed gun laws. Get informed. Get to the polls. And make sure every gun owner you know does the same.
