Chris Sykes’ Fort Riley Giant

Chris Sykes, a military veteran, achieved a monumental feat on public land at Kansas’ Fort Riley. After four seasons of hunting the base, Sykes spotted a massive typical buck from his tree stand. Adapting quickly, he descended and maneuvered through a patch of grass and cedars to get closer. Using a well-timed grunt call, he lured the buck to within 25 yards. With his shot true, Sykes downed the towering buck, which scored an impressive 197-4/8” Boone & Crockett. Read the full story on Outdoor Life.

Alea Mast’s Youth Season Triumph

Seventeen-year-old Alea Mast started Ohio’s youth firearms season with high hopes and a clear target. Two weeks earlier, she had recorded video footage of a unique buck with drop tines. After work on November 21, Chris Barham headed into the woods of Southampton County, Virginia. Just before reaching his field setup, he spotted a group of five bucks feeding. Among them was a wide-racked giant, a clear standout. Stalking along the edge of the field, Barham steadied his aim and dropped the 20-inch-wide, nine-point buck with a single shot from his 20-gauge slug gun. Not content to stop there, he tagged a doe later that evening, rounding out one of his best hunting days. Read the full story on Game & Fish.
