The news from Texas has been heartbreaking with more than a 100 dead and nearly 150 still missing following the tragic flash floods that hit the Texas Hill Country early this month. The victims included an entire cabin of girls and their leaders gathered at summer camp, a beloved camp director, two young sisters found dead still clutching each other’s hands, and so many others. Kerr County, Texas, was hardest hit.

With news of the tragedy in their home state still raw, U.S. LawShield CEO Brooksy Smith and Senior Sales Vice President Phil Nelsen, announced last week that 100% of all membership revenue—starting last week through July 31—will be donated to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund at the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country. U.S. LawShield is a leading legal defense for self-defense organization known for its nationwide firearms law education and gun owner legal protection programs.

In a follow-up statement to the announcement, Nelsen said the initiative applies to any classroom membership sold across the country, whether through U.S. LawShield-taught events or classes hosted by independent instructors and retail partners. The funds raised will come from every membership level.

“We can’t help with every tragedy, but thankfully we have the ability to help a lot of people with this one,” Nelsen wrote in a company communication.

The floods were fueled by torrential rains, causing some rivers to rise as much as 26 feet in less than 45 minutes. The raging waters overwhelmed homes, campgrounds, businesses and infrastructure across Central Texas. First responders and volunteers continue to work around the clock in what has been deemed a recovery effort at this point, while residents begin the long and painful process of burying their lost loved ones and rebuilding.

U.S. LawShield’s leadership fast-tracked approval of the fundraising campaign, recognizing that the company’s strong grassroots network of members and classroom events could be mobilized to provide meaningful aid.

Now is the perfect time for gun owners considering purchasing self-defense legal coverage for the first time or changing their coverage to attend a seminar or shooting class and join U.S. LawShield. Not only will you be helping yourself by gaining vital information about your rights and self-defense laws, but at the same time you’ll be directly supporting fellow Americans in desperate need.
