Access to quality hunting and outdoor recreation land is a growing challenge across the U.S., but a recent episode of The Connecting with Conservation Podcast sheds light on a little-known solution: Department of Defense lands. In Season 2, Episode 14, hosts Jon Gassett and Jim Curcuruto welcome Sean Cross, chief contracting officer at iSportsman, to discuss how outdoor enthusiasts can legally access millions of acres of military-managed property for activities ranging from hunting and fishing to target shooting—and even collecting pine needles.

Cross explains how iSportsman’s online permit system helps unlock these opportunities on nearly 60 military installations nationwide, from California’s Edwards Air Force Base to New York’s West Point Military Academy. The platform enables users to obtain permits, check in and out of recreational areas, and report harvests—all from their mobile devices.

“I was blown away by all the opportunities to access lands that I never knew about,” Curcuruto said. “If you’re looking for access to new lands, you’re going to want to watch this episode.”
