Each year, as winter fades and spring approaches, anglers across Texas eagerly anticipate the white bass run. With reports predicting a particularly strong season, now is the time to grab your gear and hit the water. According to Lone Star Outdoor News, the annual white bass migration is shaping up to be a can’t-miss event.

The Annual White Bass Run

White bass migrate upstream from reservoirs into rivers and creeks to spawn, creating an ideal opportunity for shore and boat anglers alike. This year, East Texas is expected to be a great location, with the Sabine River above Toledo Bend Reservoir already seeing large female white bass moving upriver as early as January. Other hotspots include the Neches River, Kickapoo Creek above Lake Palestine, and Chambers Creek above Richland Chambers, where anglers are reporting promising catches.

In North Central Texas, heavy rains and reservoir releases have triggered an early start to the white bass run. Notable locations include the East Fork of the Trinity River below Lake Lavon, Stewart Creek on Lake Lewisville, and Peach, Caney, and Spring Creeks feeding into Lake Houston. The possibility of hooking hybrid stripers coming up from Ray Hubbard adds to the excitement.

While Central and South Texas are experiencing lower water levels, all hope isn’t lost. If timely rains arrive, conditions could improve significantly, especially along the Nueces River, South Bosque River, and the Brazos River above Lakes Whitney and Granbury.

Recommended Fishing Sites

Texas anglers looking for easy public access can take advantage of numerous fishing sites, including the Grand Bluff Boat Ramp on the Sabine River, Chandler River Park on the Neches River, and Colorado Bend State Park on the Colorado River. Many Texas State Parks and designated River Access and Conservation Areas (RACA) also provide opportunities for shore-based and paddle craft anglers.

With white bass known for their aggressive strikes and spirited fights, this season promises ample opportunity for those ready to take advantage of the run. Don’t miss out: grab your rod and get in on the action!
